The
Sonny Boy Blues Society (SBBS) was formed in 1987, by many of the
people that were responsible for organizing the King Biscuit Blues
Festival. The group named themselve after Sonny Boy Williamson,
one of the primary performers on King Biscuit Time radio
show on KFFA radio. Sonny Boy's harp playing and singing is a major
influence on many of the performers appearing at the KBBF.
The Sonny Boy
Blues Society is an integral part of the King Biscuit Blues Festival
and its members volunteer many man-hours not only during the festival,
but throughout the year to help with the festivals continuing growth
and success.
The SBBS manages
The Sonny Boy Music Hall which brings blues acts to Helena throughout
the year for those who can't wait for the KBBF to come around. During
the festival the music hall will have live music into the wee hours
of the morning for those who want to continue partying after the
festival acts stop.
Although based
in Helena, Arkansas, the Sonny Boy Blues Society boasts members
from over 30 states and 10 foreign countries.
