Who are the Desoto County Sweet Potato Queens?

We're just a group of women from Desoto County, Mississippi who've crowned ourselves in the name of TAMMY. We deserve a crown as much as any beauty pageant winner only we aren't going to lower ourselves to grovel in front of a bunch of judges for it. We don our red wigs and crowns and dress up in padded butts and boobs, green sequins, hot pink fringe and majorette boots all in the name of our adopted cause.

Each and every one of us queens as well as the thousands of other queens in the 3,000 plus chapters worldwide are named TAMMY and we travel to Jackson, Mississippi (the birthplace of The Sweet Potato Queens) every St. Patrick's day to participate in the big St. Paddy's Day Parade. There, we party like mad and pay our respects to the BOSS QUEEN, Jill Connor Browne, creator of The Sweet Potato Queens worldwide organization and author.

 DCSPQ New Year's Eve!

The Desoto County Sweet Potato Queens stopped by Hunter Brown's to party with The Bouffants before heading to Tiz Ann's Station to ring in the new year!

2004 arrived in sweet style and we're all planning to make the best of the other 364 days. From all the Desoto County Sweet Potato Queens to you; HAPPY NEW YEAR!

See photos of the New Year's Eve party here.

 DCSPQ Love Our RiverKings

The Memphis RiverKings invited The Desoto County Sweet Potato Queens to their game on Friday, December 19, 2003, where we worked a table and played with the crowd.

See photos from that event here.

DCSPQ Float in the Desoto County Christmas Parades

The Desoto County Sweet Potato Queens placed 2nd place in the Olive Branch Christmas parade and 3rd in the Horn Lake Christmas parade.

DCSPQ also participated in the Hernando Christmas parade this year. Unfortunately, we were unable to participate in the Southaven Christmas Parade, but we are honoring the City of Southaven with our 2004 "Rescue Me" Calendar, so hopefully they will forgive us.

See photos of our float in the parades here.

 DCSPQ 2004 "Rescue Me" Calendar

The Desoto County Sweet Potato Queens will be putting out their 2004 calendar before the end of the year. This year's calendar theme is: Rescue Me. As such this calendar is illustrated with photos of our queens with our newest Spud Studs: The Southaven Firefighters and Policemen...REOWR! All proceeds from the calendar will go to our adopted cause: The Desoto Sunrise Girls' Home. Orders will be taken soon on these calendars but you can get a taste of what's inside here.
